Crying

People often forget that crying is an action. We don’t feel it,we do it.It’s the result of feeling something. We cry when we feel an emotion.Crying in itself is not an emotion.I think this is one major reason why people have normalised crying as if it’s an emotion we need to feel and absorb.Crying does make you feel relieved but it does not mean it’s giving you the rest you need. The relief attached to crying is not the relief we get after rest. The relief we get when we wake up from sleep after a hectic day isn’t the same as we get from crying. We can see relief from different perspectives,I see it as a beginning of something as in after the relief we feel energised. We can also see relief as a release of tiredness but to achieve that rest is necessary.Usually the resultant of rest is relief. Not just physical rest,it can be emotional or mental too.Generally we feel light after crying but have we ever noticed how long does it last?Personally speaking whenever I’ve found myself crying,I’ve noticed that the release of heaviness lasts only for a couple of minutes and we are back to feeling what we were before crying. It doesn’t help us solve anything,it’s actually the frustration we get while solving whatever it is we are trying to solve which ultimately leads to healing. We tend to cry when we are in any state of pain but crying doesn’t heal or repair that pain.Bluntly speaking,it does nothing but distracts us from the healing process because healing involves release of pain by invoking pain.Children often cry when the doctor injects them. It’s the injection which is the cure, not the tears. The crying associated with this example is involuntary as in the child does not want to cry but cries because of the pain. The point I am trying to make here is that it’s the injection which cures the child.Personally, I’m not against crying ,infact I like crying when the feeling is heavy because at the least it provides a break for a couple of minutes.I guess there is different kind of crying for every emotion and also different kind of crying for the various reasons behind one base emotion. This post isn’t about involuntary crying but voluntary crying that we as humans have started to over-normalise.All it requires is normalisation and not over normalisation.Crying should be more without a warning and less with effort.

Thank you for reading.I’ll keep coming back to this post whenever I think it requires an update because this is one topic which I’ll keep on thinking about through various perspectives and scenarios.
